Computational Genomics Intern (Johnston, IA) (Job Number: 018032W-01)
The Computational Genomics and Bioinformatics Systems group at DuPont Pioneer is seeking an undergraduate or graduate student for a three to six-month internship program in the field of computational biology and bioinformatics. This internship is designed to provide experiences into the exploration of genomes with next-generation sequencing while helping advance internal data analysis needs.
The intern will design new or improve upon existing analytic pipelines using computational biology best practices, and aid in deriving biologically meaningful conclusions from their analyses. The intern will be expected to present the results of their research at the completion of the internship program.
The position will be a three-month internship during the summer of 2018. The intern will be involved with large datasets for genomic research, bioinformatics, Linux scripting and high-performance computing. The intern will work closely with scientists focusing mainly on the exploration of data analyses for pan genome and deep genome analyses.
The Computational Biology Intern will conduct analyses around genomeassociated data, including, but not limited to, genomic assembly, comparativegenomics, DNA structural assessment, and associated genomic phenotypes.
Assist in thedevelopment and evaluation of novel computational biology and bioinformaticstechniques.
Workcollaboratively across all of R&D to produce bioinformatic processes toadvance genome science.
Interact withteams of researchers to digest and summarize large amounts of data, interpretscientific results, and communicate scientific findings in a clear and concisemanner.
College Junior standing or above, including recent graduates majoring in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Genetics, Biostatistics or a related field. Graduate students in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology are encouraged to apply. The intern must be a self-motivated individual with the ability to work well in a dynamic team and a desire for learning. Strong computing skills and an aptitude for scientific discovery are essential.
Experience in next-generation sequence analysis
Competency in programming Python scripts and Linux scripting computing is required; proficiency in scientific programming languages is a plus.
Demonstrated ability to quantitatively evaluate and analyze complex scientific problems, interpret experimental results, and work efficiently with large volumes of data.
