Integrated Field Science (IFS)-Field Scientist – Job Description
Job Location: Central India (Chhattisgarh, Odisha and west MP) based at Raipur
Purpose: Conducts and/or monitors trials to characterize the field performance of traits and chemistry in line with technical objectives provided by the function and pertinent company stewardship guidelines. Summarizes data at the local level and contributes to regional and global field data summaries for our products. Provides local knowledge on crop management practices, issues and trends to IFS teams as well as the commercial organization. Supports product launches as part of a cross-functional team in the country or Commercial Unit. Reports to the Country or Commercial Unit IFS
Interacts with: different roles within IFS and Commercial functions. The role supports Sales Representatives and Technical education and interacts with Regulatory Specialists. External interactions include universities and govt research institutions, agricultural officials, growers and technical as well as commercial staff of distributors (customer facing role).
Skills: Broad scientific and agronomic understanding and leadership, ability to select optimal test sites and strategies and good understanding of trial designs and goals. Versatile individual who can solve practical problems in sometimes remote locations and is committed to a strong safety and stewardship culture. Ability to interact with growers and to give clear directions to contractors. Good command of English as well as local languages that are relevant to the allocated territory.
Accountable for flawless field trial execution: Selecting sites based on technical objectives, understanding and writing of protocols, forecasting sample needs and organizing local shipments of test items. Accountable for exact planting, applications and evaluations as well reliable upload of data to pertinent data bases. Accountable for destruction of crop after trial completion according to local regulations.
Organizes field tours upon request and selects appropriate trials to support decision making in a regional/global trial program.
Summarizes data from own trials as well as data from other field scientists and provides key observations and recommendations on product performance to the Program Leader in IFS and cross functional product development teams.
Assists IFS experts in strategy of local data generation for pipeline and existing products to ensure optimal technical value propositions for final products and cost-efficient trial plans.
Measures and documents field performance, understands resistance issues, and identifies trends and issues relative to current and emerging competition in the assigned territory. Proposes technical positioning to the Portfolio Leadership Management Teams based on local needs and requirements in the assigned territory.
Serves as R&D expert and technical focal point for specific products and crops in the assigned territory.
Represents organization at relevant academic and government institutes in the assigned territory and documents emerging trends and technology related to agriculture.
Serves as ad-hoc advisor to Marketing Teams, Program Mangers, Portfolio Marketing Leaders at local level.
Provides input on the critical assessment and prioritization of technical needs and activities essential to the implementation of business strategy.
Focal point for local country/CU and R&D functions pertaining to technical issues/queries related to the assigned products.
Key activities in the Organization:
Assists local Marketing and Commercial teams in providing technical support and training with organization’s portfolios, with special emphasis on IFS.
Works with Regional Tech Experts to develop new uses/markets in the regions for increased sales/penetration.
Works with Biology Leaders in IFS to achieve technical objectives through field trials.
Works with Predictive Ag Team to provide technical support on next-generation pest control and ag practices.
Works with Regulatory specialists to ensure that all trial work is done in compliance with local regulations.
A Ph.D. degree in Agronomy (Weed Science), Agricultural Entomology, Plant Pathology from a reputed Agricultural University is a must.
Applicants should have an in-depth knowledge of the theories and practices of agricultural science and a demonstrated proficiency in conducting and publishing refereed research.
A working knowledge of agronomic production practices and crop protection would also be to the candidate’s advantage.
Candidates must have a demonstrated ability to transfer technology through scientific presentation and publication. The job requires practical knowledge of education techniques and experience transferring technical information to diverse audiences.
Atleast 2-5 years of work experience in Agchem industry on Product Development roles.
