Operations Manager (Job Number: 015271W-01)


The Operations Manager represents a unique opportunity to lead the Nevada Operations team at our large scale cellulosic ethanol facility, with a strong focus on leadership and people development. As a member of the plant management team, this role will utilize your operational background and people management skills to lead the Operations team and effectively deliver on people, product and process performance goals.

The Operations Manager will interact with the Global Supply Chain organization to understand customer needs and coordinate plant planning efforts to optimize production schedules, resource constraints and capacity utilization to meet those needs. The Operations Manager will also be responsible for adjusting and aligning our Operations Team structures, staffing and training programs to meet the growing plant needs. In addition, you will be accountable for establishing and meeting fixed and variable cost objectives and creating the expectations associated with operating the facility in a safe, effective, and ethical manner.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Lead the Operations team to effectively manage and support the overall plant objectives, organizational culture.

  • Accountable for the Operations SHE directives and PSM Elements, including short and long-term improvement plans. Serve as the approver for Operations and Technical leadership for PSM documentation.

  • Provide leadership to direct report employees along with facilitating career development, performance goals and feedback discussions.

  • Establish effective communication processes and systems focused on transparent sharing of information and engaging employees in the success of the facility.

  • Collaborate within site to maintain focus on priorities in the areas of safety, technical assumptions/performance, quality, operational excellence, continuous improvement and culture/employee development.

  • Understand and support DuPont and IB strategic initiatives.

  • Performance Management and organization of resources (goal setting, performance management, recognition and rewards, feedback, coaching & counseling)

  • Promote, support and at times lead continuous improvement processes (GMP, ISO, HACCP, FSSC, PSM, Safety and Health, Environmental, Quality and Work System, Lean Six Sigma, DPS).

  • Lead, promote and encourage the development of technical and soft skills within the operations area fostering a high performance work system/culture

  • Establish operational and technical priorities and focus, ensuring safe operation of the facility, operational discipline and plant cleanliness, and allocate resources to achieve priorities.

  • Collaborate with other functions to meet the growing/changing plant operational needs.


You are an effective, results-driven, self-directed and motivated team player who communicates in an open, honest manner. In addition, qualified candidates should possess the following:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical/BioChemical Engineering or related technical field preferred

  • A minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience in an industrial/manufacturing environment

  • Must be able to listen and lead in a collaborative and engaging nature -- welcoming input and teamwork

  • Must be able to collaborate with various internal and external teams to bring focus and priority on operational challenges impacting plant performance and capacity utilization

  • Must possess exceptional interpersonal skills and have demonstrated success in delivering superior results through team engagement, development and commitment.

  • Must have experience with safety processes and systems including safety improvement processes, audits and developing safe behaviors.

  • Previous responsibility in managing budgets and understanding fixed/variable cost performance drivers
